As the Leapfrog Leapster Multimedia Learning System is designed specifically to help kids learn and the Leapfrog company has such a good reputation in the interactive learning field it comes as no surprise that there are some amazing games on offer for the system.
Games for the Leapster are all about learning in an enjoyable context rather than the hand-eye co-ordination or thumb-numbing dexterity of regular hand held games. Another great thing about Leapster 2 Games is that they are backwards compatible, that is they work in the latest version of the Leapfrog Leapster Multimedia Learning System or the initial release.
Games vary in age suitability so be sure to check the age recommendation on the game description, though it is safe to say that these recommendations are only a guide and can vary according to your child’s aptitude level.
Leapfrog Leapster 2 Games for Ages 4-6
Dora The Explorer: Camping Adventure
In this game the main attraction, apart from the character of Dora, is its bilingual focus. As with all Dora products this game promotes the use of Spanish by introducing the occasional word and its Spanish translation. Another bonus is the fact that it is set outside, amongst nature and there are many elements that will inspire kids to create their own adventure when game time is over.
Game description: Take off with Dora and Boots on an action-packed camping adventure! Zip, raft, swing and sing your way to learning new Spanish words and phrases with your favorite explorer friends. All Leapster games work with all Leapster systems.
Go Diego Go! Animal Rescuer
Another great bilingual game which carries a wonderful environmental message in its totally fun game design. Diego teaches elementary maths skills and shape recognition while racing around the world to rescue animals and the game succeeds brilliantly in both engaging and teaching. For ages 4-8.
Game Description: Venture into the wilderness with Diego to save animals in need! Explore the rain forest, desert and Antarctica as you run, jump and swing from learning numbers to performing addition and subtraction. You’ll discover fun facts while becoming an Official Animal Rescuer!
Mr Pencil’s Learn To Draw And Write
A highly interactive and creative game designed to encourage children to write and draw on the Leapster using the stylus that comes with the system. From mixing colors and coloring pictures to tracing and copying letters and numbers to creating simple animations. This is a wonderful way to encourage your young artist and uses the full features of the Leapster system.
Game Description: Dozens of art tools and more than 100 step-by-step lessons let children draw, write and create anything they can imagine. Leapster2 players can connect online for extra activities and rewards.
Disney Princess Games
Designed for the original Leapster this game is still going strong and is an example of how all Leapster 1st generation games can be played on the Leapster 2 and how all Leapster 2 games can be played on the original Leapster. Ideal for young fans of the Disney Princess series this title teaches fine motor skills and letter writing and recognition. Children are encouraged to interact and learn in a supportive and fun context with characters they love.
Game Description: Join Cinderella and Ariel in an enchanted learning adventure! Trace Cinderella's footsteps as she dances along letters. Jump on shapes, letters and numbers to help make Cinderella's dress. Match answers on giant clams with Ariel.
