Choosing The Best Leapster Recharger
The Leapfrog Leapster Multimedia Learning System comes out of the box ready for use once you add 4AA batteries. Like most portable gaming consoles, this device has an LCD screen and so it goes through those batteries very quickly. It is worth the time to find the best Leapster recharger system that suits your child's lifestyle.
As any parent knows electronic toys powered by batteries are both a blessing and a curse. They are irresistibly entertaining when they have power but conversely frustrating and useless without. Buying new batteries is an expensive pastime and with young kids who may not understand this concept yet, things can turn from excitement to disappointment very quickly.
To get the most out of the system, and avoid parent and child frustration at loss of power, Leapfrog has released two optional accessories to power the Leapster system. These do not ship with the Leapster Multimedia Learning System but can be purchased separately. There is also a third option of a regular battery recharging unit.
The first option for external power is a traditional AC power cord, released by Leapfrog to work specifically with the Leapster. The cord plugs into the Leapster console and then straight into a traditional wall socket so power is drawn from mains electricity.
The only downside to this strategy is that the child is connected to the wall while playing so it not an ideal solution if you want to use the Leapster system for travelling. The upside is that the cord is quite long so there is a certain level of mobility within the room.
The second official Leapfrog option is the Leapster Recharger. The Leapster Recharger uses a single battery that can be charged using electricity then removed and placed into the Leapster, giving at least 6 hours play before needing another recharge.
The Leapster Recharger also comes with an AC adaptor that can power the Leapster directly. One re-usable battery powers the whole Leapster system and takes approximately four hours to recharge fully. There is only one battery per Leapster recharger.
A third option, though not an official Leapfrog product, is an AA battery recharger. If the first two options do not appeal, this is an all purpose solution as the batteries can be used in other products when the Leapster 2 is not being used.
Purchasing a recharger that takes 4 AA batteries would be the best option if you went with this method as the Leapster also takes 4 batteries and they can all be recharged at the same time.
