Leapster Explorer Ben 10 Game Review

The Leapster Explorer Ben 10 Game is bound to be a hit.

Ben 10 is one of those properties you always feel silly explaining to parents. I mean if you don’t know who Ben 10 is then you probably don’t have a child under the age of 10 and so this game will be of no interest to you.

Ben 10 For Dummies

But here we go…Ben 10 is a cartoon series produced by the Cartoon Network. It is the story of a ten year old boy, Ben Tennyson who finds a a watch-like device in the woods while camping with his Grandfather.

The device, known as the Omnitrix, is actually of alien origin and gives him the ability to transform into a variety of alien life-forms (10 in all) by mixing Ben’s DNA with that of the Alien creatures. Each alien that Ben transforms into has its own unique powers.

As a result of inheriting these powers Ben fought against the powers of evil that crossed his path. After the destruction of the Omnitrix, Ben adopted the Ultimatrix and this game is set during that time frame.

Gameplay

In the Ben 10 Leapster Explorer game the player takes the role of Ben Tennyson and the aim is to earn badges by solving puzzles based around geography and life science. Children can use those badges to then unlock areas of the Ben 10 game or gain tokens in the Leapworld online system.

I like this aspect, but for parents who don’t want their kids logging into the Internet it can be potential source of frustration.

In a nutshell, Ben 10 has to defeat the evil Dr Animo and free his friends by traveling around the world, confronting the evil mastermind’s monsters by answering questions and solving puzzles about maps, animals and geography.

Its a fun game and I like the focus on animals but my kids are not big fans of the series and I don’t think they will be attracted to the game because of that, though from talking to other parents I feel I am in the minority!

Overall a fun game and definitely worth it for kids ages approximately 5-8 who enjoy the cartoon.

Young children are naturally intrigued by animals and animal facts. Very early on children begin to categorize animals by species and learn interesting facts about them. This early interest in animals provides the motivation for later work in life sciences.

Children learn to draw maps using pictures at first. They then go on to use landmarks and location words. By grade school children use maps and globes to to locate and work out distances between places.
