The new Leapster Explorer game, Toy Story 3 is a learning game based around the concepts of physics, phonics, spelling and the alphabet.
Aimed at ages four to seven the game is centered around the characters and events from the latest Toy Story 3 film from Pixar Animation Studios.
Pixar And Leapster
Pixar and Leapfrog have a great history together, Pixar’s films being featured on many of the Leappad/Tag and Leapster formats. It is no surprise that their latest game on the Leapster Explorer is one of the most popular launch titles.
Pixar’s characters are appealing to kids and the franchise is one parents can rely on, much like the Leapster brand itself.
In the Toy Story 3 Leapster Explorer game you can play as either Buzz or Woody, which settles that potential fight straight away!
Interactive Board Game
The game is set up as an interactive board game (which suits the Toy theme straight away) and includes locations and situations from the latest film.
There are 15 mini games on the board set in the notorious “Caterpillar room” at Sunnyside Daycare and if you have seen the film you can understand the object of the game is to get the toys out of the room. Once they leave the room its off to the sandpit and then to the dump.
The graphics are great, as to be expected with this new updated console’s screen. Gameplay is straight forward and guaranteed not to frustrate

Have Woody, Buzz and friends met their match? New home, new foe! Play as Buzz or Woody as you use your phonics skills to move your way around this interactive board game and compete in 15 challenging missions!
Race to collect letter blocks to spell words before your opponent, or complete missions by reaching goal markers. Play challenging mini-games to collect letters and reveal shortcuts along the way. But watch out for Lotso’s traps – they’ll slow you down!
As you play, you can earn badges for your achievements which can then be converted into LeapWorld tokens where you can customise your Disney Pixar Toy Story 3 game. Or use your tokens in LeapWorld where you can adopt a pet, play games and earn rewards.
With Leapster Explorer the game dynamically adjusts the curriculum to the player’s skill level so it’s not too easy and not too hard.
Parents can connect to the online LeapFrog Learning Path to see what their child is playing and learning, and explore ways to expand their child’s learning journey.
Toy Story 3 Teaches:
- Letters
- Phonics skills
- Rhyming
- Word recognition
- Word building
- Spelling
- Physical science
- Physical Science
- Physical sciences (such as physics and chemistry) deal with the nature of energy and nonliving matter. Children observe, investigate, compare, describe and sort as they begin to form explanations of the world.
- Phonics Skills
- Before they can read independently, children must learn the relationship of letters to their sounds and be able to distinguish individual sounds, or phonemes, within words. Phonics skills help children sounds out new words (If I can read “pot”, then I can read “hot” and “spot”).
